The word “ghetto” is defined as an area of a city lived in by a minority group; especially a run-down and densely populated area lived in by a group that experiences discrimination. Today it seems to be acceptable for our country to have more prisons than award winning schools. Today it seems to be acceptable that we set up our poverty stricken [...] Young black New Yorkers are raised in a racially polarized society. The murder in Bensonhurst of Yusuf Hawkins is not an isolated incident. The number of racially motivated crimes has escalated since Howard Beach, as the city’s mayoral candidates ought to know. And these crimes are only the most obvious form of racism. [...] We are all familiar with boxer Floyd Mayweather. He has had a tremendous boxing career winning 40 fights dating back to 1996. His most recent being this past September against Juan Manuel Marquez. A fight that was viewed by 1 million viewers.
