Education is key. In today’s society you are judged for jobs and schools based on your academic standing. And with this being the case, why are so many public school systems failing? Is it the fault of the faculty? Is it the fault of the student? Should the parents be held to a certain standard of accountability? Should the local and federal governments be held to certain standard of accountability? These are all serious questions in which no one is trying to answer. Many students are passing that should not be passing. Many students are graduating high school and do not have the academic standing of a high school senior. Worse, many if not all of these schools are located within inner city neighborhoods.
There cannot be any success in the war on drugs if we do not tackle the real problem. We can not successfully reduce crime and recidivism if we do not tackle the real problem. That problem being that our children are uneducated. As a society we need to teach our children that what they see is not all the world has to offer. We need to incorporate diversity to give them a global picture of the world outside of their own. After all, they are not your children or his/her children, they are our children and we all share the responsibility of making sure they succeed!
Dr. Steve Perry opened Capital Preparatory Magnet School. This school is open year round and tacklesd issues of troubled youth and their education. Dr. Perry commits himself to bettering the lives of his children, meaning the children in his community not just in his immediate family. He successfuly involves himself in the lives of his students and their success. Dr. Perry sends 100% of his graduating class to college. He is obviously doing something right.
