As the times change, so must our way of doing things. Children don’t learn the traditional way anymore. That’s why we have so many children that can recite the new rap video from last night but not remeber the lesson from history class. A New York City based project called “Flocabulary” has introduce hip hop into the classroom. It uses hip hop lyrics and other influences to teach students in various subjects like history and english. The project has now span into over 10,000 schools. Flocabulary has proven to be very beneficial and has resulted in higher testing rates in the schools in which it is used. The classroom has become a place where children can truly learn and engage in a way that relates to them. Teaching has become about the children and reaching them on their level, not forcing them to come to ours. Flocabulary has given that distarught student a new way to look at learning. It has brought excitement and energy which was lacking before. It has brought hope and a new meaning to “No Child Left Behind”. For more information on the Flocabulary visit www.Flocabulary.com
