Living The Ghetto Life

The word “ghetto” is defined as an area of a city lived in by a minority group; especially a run-down and densely populated area lived in by a group that experiences discrimination. The ghetto is a place where our parents work their hardest to remove us from everyday.  The ghetto is a state; an experience that we go through to appreciate the things that will come later on in life. The ghetto is a struggle. It will either make you or break you.

But today, you have youth that can barely wipe their asses correctly, that are embracing the ghetto as if it is this new found playground. You have youth that “rep” the ghetto as if it’s a place that is promoting good. You have youth that come from 2 parents household in the suburbs that walk around with a hood front because they to wish they lived in the ghetto too.

Today, you have youth that can’t read or write. But those same youth, know how to kill the one next to them with the semi broken pistol by jiggling the clip a little to the right. Today you have youth with babies when their mothers are still babies, and their daddy’s, hell Maybe. Today you have youth selling sex for less and putting their souls up for show… in the ghetto.

To all my youth of today, the ghetto does not love you. The ghetto is not there to help you. The ghetto is society’s way of telling you that they don’t feel you deserve any better. Look around you. All the buildings are run down, rodent infested, full of vacant lots and homeless people with no where else to go. Look around.  There are families, maybe even yours, that struggle just to make ends meet and can’t get any help from the society to which they pay their taxes to progress forward. Youth look around. You live in an environment where guns are blazing all day every day. You’re killing each other when you all live by the same circumstances with the same problems. You’re killing yourself over the name of a street that doesn’t care about you. Look at your schools, the faculty in them. Many of your teachers could care less if you pass or fail because in reality they don’t want to be there dealing with long hours, low wages and ignorance anyway. They want to be teachers, but just not there.  Look at the print date on your text books. Yea, they are old and out dated.

Wake up, the ghetto was created by society to promote hate, it was no mistake.  Your neighborhood was no mistake. It’s strewn with liquor stores, night clubs and low performing schools to keep you dumb, drunk, and partying. You have become the dummy that society wants you to be because you embrace this image “the life”.  You live it, breathe it, and continue to promote it.

Wake up, you walk around everyday with a chip on your shoulder hating everyone but the right one. Hate yourself. Hate yourself for not learning, for not knowing.  All the signs are right in front of your eyes. The police won’t come to your neighborhood when some someone broke into your house but they were right there when you were slinging that coke.  The ghetto was made to self destruct and right now as a people we are destructing self. Wake up!
