Remembering Oscar Fuentes

The Monday Morning News spread the word of 9 year old Oscar fuentes who was shot dead through the peep hole of his front door in NW, DC. Since the shooting an arrest has been made. However, the effects still lingers in the community. Mr. Landy Thompson feels “People are not only practicing crime, they’re now succeeding.” President Cecilia Jones states “There’s got to be more community involvement and community accountability. Law enforcement and the criminal justice system also needs to remain accountable,” she said, adding that the revitalization in Columbia Heights can be a problem for both residents and police when it comes to crime. “There is a lot of inherent danger and yet there is a degree of apathy. People want to turn and look the other way. They don’t want to engage. They don’t want to get involved. They’re afraid. And yet those same people are victims.”

Bottom line, we have another child that is dead at the hands of violence. We have a community now afraid for their children. We have a family scorned by a tragedy. It’s unacceptable and the violence has to end.

Prayers and blessings go out to the Fuentes family
