Religious Condemnation

Ever since 9/11, people have taken a dislike to the Muslim religion and all activities and people involved with it. The people associated with the Taliban and Al-Qaeda have put a stigma on this religion that has erupted into mass hysteria.

Muslims can’t walk down the street in some areas without being subjected to sneers and derogatory statements. They can’t go through some airports without being the one’s selected for a random search. Members of the Muslim religion can’t do much of anything without their beliefs and actions being torn apart under a microscope for the world to criticize.

As if that is not bad enough, one Rev. Terry Jones and his Florida based church, has decided to burn Quran’s on this coming 9/11/2010. An action that will disrupt all the work that has been done post 9/11. An action of blatant disrespect for a culture that we know nothing of. An action that will post a statement that all Muslim’s are terrorists and out the get us.

This type of ignorance is what resulted in slavery and discrimination. This type of ignorance is what resulted in the Holocaust. The mentality of superiority and socially correct behavior is continuing to drive this country, and world, apart from one another.

One must take the time to put aside their own beliefs to understand why things occur. The generalized reaction is fear, but the generalized understanding needs to be that not all Muslims are terrorists and not all Muslims are bad people. Education and wisdom will bring about the understanding needed to move forward from these tragic events because burning their Quran is not going to change anything; it will only bring about more hatred and retaliation.

The funny thing is not one time have I heard it reported on the morning news that research has been done into understanding the behaviors and morals of these countries. Not one time has anyone pointed out the countries which teach their children at young ages how to fight in a military style for the sake of their families. Not one time has anyone attempted to stop justifying the actions of retaliation that the U.S. took. That is not to say that sending troops to Iraq was wrong, nor am I saying that it was right. September 11, 2001 was a horrible day in American history, and all the lives lost deserved justice to be served.

However, What I am saying is that the direction in which these actions have taken is not just nor is it going to bring about justice for the lives that were lost. The actions that are now being taken are not allowing these people to rest in peace. We are making a mockery of the situation through our current actions, such as burning a Quran, and it needs to stop.

Allow the families to finish their grieving. Allow the souls to pass on and rest. Remembrance of their good times, the people that they were, the joys that they brought, and the times that we got to spend with them will bring about acceptance in our hearts. At some point their memories will supersede the negativity and ignorance.
