Society and Homosexuality

Homosexuality is a debate that is tearing apart communities, churches, and even homes. Homosexuals have been among us for years but always kept quiet and hidden.

As a society we view homosexuality as freakish and against the norm. We bash, hurt, and sometimes kill them out of our own ignorance. We cause these men and women to live timid and walk on egg shells for fear of the things we may do to them. “Gay Bashing” as it has been referred to has been around for a very long time and not to many people have taken the responsibility to do anything about it.

The homosexual community has taken a stance and demanded the same respect as everyone else. They are fighting for their freedom and stepping out of the closet.

This “revolution” has sparked a lot interest in the country. As of lately the government and churches have really gotten involved. We have the states electing to put the matters of gay marriage on ballets. We have the churches who once accepted the homosexual community now casting them out.

This stance that homosexual community has taken requires bravery. So far, they shown nothing but determination and pride.

As a neutral person in the matter, I personally feel to each his own. I am heterosexual and that is a choice I make freely with no regard. So why should it be any different for those who make the opposite choice?

I’m the religion realm, every one has to answer to their GOD come their judgment day. There is not one homosexual that has to answer their pastor or congregation. As a church I feel its your responsibility to guide your congregation. Preach the word as holy and neutral as possible. Your personal feelings and perspectives should cloud your sermon. The church is suppose to be a place to turn for praise. You don’t have to accept their choice but be supportive. Pray that they make the right choices and live in a holy manner so that they will be welcomed come judgment day.

In the government realm, it seems as though you are trying to satisfy the majority, the church. However, like the church, you cannot allow your personal feelings or perspective cloud your political judgment. As politicians you have to uphold the constitution and bill of rights. There is nothing is either that has to do with homosexuality. Now, I understand as societal issues arise it is your job to calm the waters. In the area of gay marriage, I can see letting the community decide. However, it has to be a fair shot. When you have a community or state for that matter that is 90% against gay marriage and 10% for, you are bound to get a slanted vote.

Like the gay community I think its we view homosexuals as human beings and not the next plague.
