Everyday there are more and more people that become homeless. They lose their jobs, cars, homes, and even families. Many have no resources to use or shouolders to lean on. Their days are spent roaming the streets begging for food and change. Its sad and a very hard experience to go through. People in the community view them as beggars and not as human beings like they really are. It is rare that someone will actually give them some extra change or a cold sandwich to eat.
Many cities and towns have shelters but they are not easily accessible. Some shelters you have to be receiving welfare to get into or you have to call a hotline everyday and hope that a bed has opened. Some have income guidelines and others have family size guidelines. What are your options if you do not meet either? It’s technically illegal to be in a park after the specified hours. You cant sleep on the public transit property although you may be able ot ride it all day. The police could potentially bother you for even living under a bridge. Being homeless is a depressing feeling and I can honestly say that from experience.
I was lucky enough to be able to get into a shelter, but I know many that were not. We had curfews and chores. Meetings and savings plans just to name a few. The places were not the best sanitary places but it was somewhere to lay your head at night so you were grateful. You learned what you could from the experience so you would never make that same mistake again, at least the smart ones did. There were others who did nothing but lay around all day, play, laugh, make jokes. Not taking anything useful from the situation but a couple of new “friends”. Those “friends” weren’t there when you got yourself in the situation, and i doubt they will be there when theyv’e completed their time and have somewhere to go while you are left homeless yet again because you didn’t want to listen.
The sad part about living in the shelter wasn’t the fact that I had rules to obide by. It was the fact that they are filled with young parents that have no clue what life is really about. They have no clue what it means to really struggle and do without. They spend their days chasing after boys to buy them things and lavish them and their nights screeming at their kids becuase they wish they could still be hanging outside. The young life, hmmm. Children will be children but they will also learn the hard way. The worst part is that there isn’t anything you can do about it.
The way I see it, shouldn’t no mother have to live in a shelter with her children if their father is still breathing air. If that man can hang out in the streets, go clubbing, go drinking, or whatever it is that he does. Then he should be able to provide a stable roof for his children to live under regardless of the relationship he has with their mother. Becuase at the end of the day, its not about the childrens mom, it about them having somewhere clean safe and sanitary to sleep. A man is not a man if he is not willing to provide that for his children. Granted their are some men who are not in any position to provide, and that is understandable. But you find a way. An excuse is not an excuse unless you are doing something to try to change the situation in which you had to make the excuse for in the first place. So ladies, and men, if you are going to give it up at least make sure you and children can reap some of the benefits. A shelter or park bench is no place you want to raise your children or live yourself.

Rather superb entry, definitely useful stuff. Never ever considered I’d find the facts I need right here. I have been looking everywhere in the internet for some time now and had been starting to get discouraged. Fortunately, I happened across your blog and received precisely what I was searching for.
