The American dream is to be rich. We all have this idea that to be rich means you have to have a lot of money. We all judge character and wealth by the size of someones bank account. When in reality, their worth is practically zero because they ran a huge line of debt trying to appear as though they have the American dream. Many of us fall victim to this way of thinking without realizing the consequences or long term affects we will cause our bodies trying to accomplish having a lot of money.
The harsh reality is that your wealth is not determined by how much money you make. What we all need to realize is that true wealth is determined by what you do with the money you have. Many people that only make $30,000 per year have greater wealth than people who make $80,00 per year. The reason being, the person that makes less knows that they have less and needs it to last. Thus they make wiser money choices. On the other hand, the person that makes $80,000 knows that they have a lot more coming in so they flash it and buy things that they normally wouldn’t.
We have people that go to great lengths everyday to get money. They will steal and rob and kill and deal drugs. For what? You do not gain anything by taking from another. You will not end ahead of the game. All they are doing is setting themselves up for failure and long prison term. All of this crime is due to this idea that we as Americans have that we have to have money. We as Americans are providing these kids and other people doing these crimes with a reason as to why they have to do it. In the end do we blame them or do we blame ourselves for the idea that we instill in their minds?
Another Harsh reality, there is no standard manual of the american dream. There is no list of things that must be done and steps to be taken. The real American dream is what you make it. All our forefathers wanted was a place for us to be free to make our own choices and live our own lifestyle. If you want to be happy, have money and invest, when you accomplish it you have accomplished the American dream. Nothing comes out of having a ton of money. What is the use in all the fame and money if you don’t do anything with it.?If you don’t give back to the community and organizations that made it all possible. What is the point if you can’t wake up and be happy to see another day because you know you have lived a fulfilling life?
Its time that we sit back and figure out the important things in life. Its time we look around us and learn from the third world countries who have less than us yet are more prosperous and more thankful, and giving, and they love and communicate with one another unconditionally. Why is this? We are the “rich” ones, we are the “advanced” ones, yet we do not even have a mere ounce of respect for our neighbor or family members.
Lets unite as one. Care and love one another. Be there for one another. But most importantly love and care for ourselves. Do what makes you happy at the end of the day. Don’t stress about how much money your neighbor has compared to how much you have. Just educate yourself to know the best things to do or not do in regards to it. Learn that you don;t have to make a lot of money to be prosperous, rather do your best at saving the extra that you have. control your splurges and only spend on what you need. It will not happen over night and it will not be easy, but you will notice the difference in the long run.
